Kimon Roufas was born in Chicago, Illinois. His family later moved to
Greece. There he built his first robot out of a modular hamster cage and a
Commodore 64 at the age of thirteen. His family then moved to Belgium,
where he graduated from an international high school in Waterloo. He went
to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, and graduated with a
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and minors in Electrical Engineering
and French. At Rensselaer he was active in a number of societies,
including the Rensselyrics, the track & field team, and completed a co-op
placement with Pitney Bowes. Kimon received a Master's degree in
Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and then began working at Xerox
PARC on Mark Yim's robotics project. He is currently working towards a
second Master's at Stanford in Electrical Engineering. His hobbies include
cycling, playing soccer and music.
