My research is about representations for intermediate level structure in visual images. The long term goal is to join the Primal Sketch (David Marr, 1976) with Visual Routines (Shimon Ullman, 1982) to build representational and control architectures that support broad and complex interactions with the visual world.

My research contacts the world through a number of applications and prototypes. A focal application domain centers around analysis of spatial structure in document images, with special attention to line drawings derived from pen input and hand-drawn sketches on live surfaces, paper, and whiteboards.

I maintain general interests in popular culture, the nature of consciousness, poker, electronic sculpture, and lots of other things.

Papers, recent ones online.
