PARC Approach & Focus Areas
 |
| By integrating expertise from multiple disciplines – including optics, semiconductor physics, system engineering, fluidics, and biochemistry – PARC scientists have enabled a host of low-cost, compact, high-performance optical detector systems and applications. |
 |
|
| PARC's vertically integrated prototyping capability spans: |
| - |
epitaxial growth of optoelectronic materials; |
| - |
device design and processing; to |
| - |
optical testing and optical system design |
- Semiconductor lasers — PARC has been at the cutting-edge of laser research for four decades, and our researchers have developed lasers in the infrared, visible, and ultraviolet regions of the optical spectrum. Current research focuses on applying this core competency to areas such as optical data storage, telecommunications, biotechnology, and biomedicine.
- Ultraviolet light emitting diodes — Our researchers are actively developing technology for light emitting diodes that operate in the deep ultraviolet. Applications include UV curing of materials, water purification, biotechnology, and medicine.
- Optical detection systems — Our researchers have developed several innovative technologies for novel optical detector components and subsystems – which offer low-cost, compact, high-performance solutions for applications in optical sensing and characterization.
- Non-imaging optics — PARC has extensive experience in designing advanced optical systems. In the photovoltaics field, PARC has teamed with SolFocus to develop non-imaging optical designs for commercial solar concentrators with terrestrial applications.
