Ross Bringans
Vice President, Director of Electronic Materials
and Devices Laboratory, Palo Alto Research Center (PARC)
Dr. Ross Bringans directs PARC's EMDL research organization, which focuses on opto-electronics, micro-electro-mechanical
systems (MEMS), large-area electronics
for displays and other applications, and the combination
of these technologies with computational control to enable new systems.
Bringans was elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 1993. He has authored or co-authored 140
articles published in scientific and technical journals; has presented over 20 invited talks at international
scientific conferences on topics ranging from the atomic
structure of semiconductors to the application of
lasers in printing; and has 15 issued patents. He joined PARC in 1984 and initially worked on the structure of semiconductor
surfaces and the interfaces formed when devices
are fabricated.
Bringans completed
his B.S., B.S. (Hons), and M.S. degrees in Physics
from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand.
He completed his post-graduate studies at
Cambridge University in England, receiving a Ph.D.
in Physics for work on the optical properties of
semiconductor materials.
